Meet The Chef!

Come meet the chef

Let’s meet the chef! HI, I’m Mama Savage, otherwise known as Victoria Savage! I am a mother of two, and have spent my entire life in the kitchen. Every job I have ever had has been related to kitchen work. From diners, to restaurants, to bakeries I’ve done it all. My most current job was working as a pastry chef at a 5 star hotel in Utah. I love all forms of cooking. BUT there is truly something special about being able to create a stunning work of art out of pastry. Taking something as simple as; fruit. a tart shell, and pastry cream and making an eye catching dessert makes my heart happy. It’s the simple things I guess.

Mom ~ Wife ~ Chef

As a Mom & Wife I take feeding my family very seriously. In many of my savory recipes you’ll notice I try to find ways to incorporate veggies however I can. Sometimes I’ll even use my cheese grater to make the veggies really fine so that its not even noticeable that its inside. When I make pasta sauce I will almost always add in spinach because its a beautiful vegetable and pairs so well with pasta.

Even my baked goods at home have secrets! I recently made an old southern spice cake recipe where the secret ingredient is… tomato soup! But you’d honestly never know. It tastes like an earthy spice cake, perfect for fall and even better when paired with a cream cheese frosting! Or if you’re not feeling like frosting, I also made a pound cake and while it was still warm I rolled it in cinnamon sugar to make a delicious cinnamon crust around the cake! It was the perfect pairing with a nice hot cup of coffee. And honestly I am so excited to make this cake with you all this coming fall season! As I prepare my kitchen for postpartum I will definitely be baking and freezing some of this cake to enjoy while navigating having 2 under 2!!

What sparked the decision to make this blog?

My family and I are expecting our second child at the end of this coming October and we are beyond excited! About two months ago I fell and broke my ankle, it has been a such an insane time. It’s a non-weight baring injury so I’ve had to essentially be on bed rest. Relying on my husband and parents (who each took turns coming from out of state) to care for me and the house, was humbling to say the least.

I am so blessed to have such a wonderful support system. But, even with these incredible people in my life it has been so hard to not be able to take care of my family. I have missed so much play time and exploration with my son, but at the same time its been so beautiful to see his bond with his Dad growing so strong every day! I feel like being put on the sidelines really forced me to slow down and truly see these moments.

When you’re running around doing chores, cooking, working, playing with your son and dogs, sometimes you don’t appreciate the beauty of the moments happening right in front of you. This injury allowed me to really cherish the bonding moments I’ve seen. From rough housing with Daddy, to play time with Nana and Papa, its all been so beautiful.

The choice to start this blog happened because of this bed rest. I’ve missed work, missed taking care of my family. But I have truly missed being in my kitchen so very much. During these last two months I’ve walked both of my parents through cooking various recipes, which reignited my love for teaching cooking and baking skills. While I am still healing my focus will be on posting more simple recipes. I’ll also be posting some general kitchen knowledge. I think it makes sense anyways, that the first posts would be educational and solid foundation recipes. Along with some meet the chef posts so that I can introduce myself to you all!

I’m so excited to start this journey with you all!

Thank you so much for reading along and meeting the chef! I’m so very excited to start this journey with you all. If you’re as excited as I am, then please give me a follow on my FB page and Pinterest account! (@mamasavageskitchen) On all my pages I will keep you up to date with posts, blogs, and recipes! I hope to see many recreations of my recipes and to hear all about the experiences making them in your own kitchens. Coming soon I’ll be posting all about our postpartum food prep. I will also be posting some of my favorite staples. Stay tuned!!
